From today, sending money across the euro area will be faster and safer than ever. Thanks to new EU rules on\u00a0instant payments<\/strong>, people and businesses can now transfer money in euro within\u00a0seconds<\/strong>, anytime \u2013 day or night, weekdays or weekends \u2013 whether within their own country or across the euro area.<\/p>\n

Since January 2025,\u00a0payment service providers (PSPs)<\/strong>\u00a0in the euro area are obliged to offer their clients the possibility to receive euro instant payments. As of today, PSPs are also obliged to offer their clients the service of\u00a0sending instant payments<\/strong>\u00a0in euro and, in order\u00a0to combat payment fraud<\/strong>\u00a0in euro credit transfers, the\u00a0service of payee verification (VoP).<\/strong>\u00a0This makes instant payments more widely available, safer, and more affordable for everyone across the euro area.<\/p>\n

Instant payments will\u00a0boost Europe’s economy<\/strong>\u00a0and bring\u00a0major benefits for citizens and companies<\/strong>.\u00a0For citizens<\/strong>, money is available immediately, making it far easier to deal with emergencies or splitting bills in social settings.\u00a0For companies<\/strong>, cash flow management will be improved, as will customer service: by providing an additional payment method to customers, they will save time and reduce costs.<\/p>\n
