Duties<\/b><\/p>\n

As a member of PECUNIA and the Laboratoire Orient & M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e research department (https:\/\/www.orient-mediterranee.com\/, UMR 8167), the doctoral candidate will be based in Paris. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator of the project, Anne-Val\u00e9rie Pont, and their degree will be delivered by Sorbonne Universit\u00e9. He\/She will also be enrolled in the Ecole Doctorale Mondes antiques et m\u00e9di\u00e9vaux (https:\/\/lettres.sorbonne-universite.fr\/ecoles-doctorales\/mondes-antiques-et-medievaux) and benefit from its academic environment.<\/p>\n

\nThe doctoral candidate will investigate the public revenues available for the financing of civic life in Asia Minor. Since previous discussions concerning the extant of public wealth, assets and revenues, knowledge on the topic and the ways to address it have been enriched by recent work on classical and Hellenistic public financial and fiscal management, on book-keeping and local archives, or by the publication of sources providing more insight on local taxes, fees and other revenues. A reassessment of this phenomenon on a systematic basis is now necessary<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Qualification and requirements<\/b><\/p>\n

1. A master\u2019s degree or equivalent in Ancient History or Classics to be completed before
\nthe beginning of the contract;
\n2. An interest in Roman administration, Roman Asia Minor, history of public finances;
\n3. A good knowledge of Latin and ancient Greek, and of epigraphy;
\n4. Excellent written and spoken English and a working knowledge of French (or excellent
\nFrench and working knowledge of English). The knowledge of other modern
\nlanguages is desirable;
\n5. High level of organisational skills and of time management.<\/p>\n
