Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service, Olof Skoog, and Mexico\u2019s Deputy Foreign Minister, Teresa Mercado Perez, co-chaired the meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/img-topic_eu_mexico.jpg\" alt=\"bandera union europea y Mexico\" width=\"386\" height=\"257\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The parties had an open and frank exchange of the state of the bilateral relations between Mexico and the EU, and the most pressing global challenges. The parties recalled their commitment to shared values such as democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights. They also underscored the importance of upholding multilateralism and strengthening the international rules-based order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The parties recalled their strong commitment to the EU &#8211; Mexico Strategic Partnership, particularly in the current complex geopolitical context. They confirmed their common interest to strengthen EU \u2011 Mexico relations through the modernisation of the Economic Partnership, Political Coordination and Cooperation Agreement, and the implementation of the Global Gateway Investment Agenda, in alignment with the Plan Mexico and to the benefit of both societies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The parties exchanged views on the international situation, including the ongoing full scale Russian invasion of Ukraine and expressed their commitment to a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in line with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations. They also agreed on the importance of ending the critical situation and violence in the Middle East and ensuring a lasting political solution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The parties referred to the EU-CELAC partnership, stressing that the EU-CELAC Summit scheduled for the second half of this year in Colombia will provide an opportunity to deepen and broaden the engagement between both regions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Furthermore, Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs Skoog and Deputy Foreign Minister Mercado exchanged views on global, international, and regional issues, including relations with the US, Canada, China, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the cooperation in multilateral fora such as the UN and the G20 to seek synergies and address global challenges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, both parties reiterated their readiness to continue their regular exchanges in this format, and agreed to meet for the next High Level Political Dialogue in 2026 in Mexico City.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>More information: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeas.europa.eu\/eeas\/mexico-european-union-and-mexico-hold-10th-high-level-political-dialogue_en\">EEAS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the framework of their Strategic Partnership, the European Union and Mexico held on 21 May their 10th\u00a0High Level Political Dialogue in Brussels.
