The University of Bologna offers one position for a highly motivated PhD student within the European doctoral network MonaLisa in the field of artificial molecular machines. MonaLisa, a pioneering European consortium of 20 partners consisting of high-profile universities, research institutions and companies located in 5 European countries, is at the forefront of artificial molecular machine research, setting the stage for breakthroughs in chemical synthesis, nanotechnology, medical treatment and smart materials. Building on the foundational work recognised by the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, MonaLisa aims to make groundbreaking discoveries in the design and functional control of molecular machines that will lead to first demonstrations with practical relevance.<\/span><\/p>\n At the heart of MonaLisa is an innovative training programme. Fifteen doctoral candidates will receive comprehensive mentoring and training by highly experienced Principal Investigators \u2013 including two Nobel Laureates \u2013 to become future leaders in the field. The programme is designed to foster not only academic excellence but also entrepreneurial skills, enabling these professionals to translate scientific breakthroughs into innovations and support evidence-based decision-making.<\/span><\/p>\n The PhD position of the present post (MonaLisa-DC06<\/strong>) is focused on the investigation of\u00a0geared movements in mechanically interlocked systems<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n Requirements\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n They are looking for an outstanding highly motivated candidate with a strong academic record holding a Master degree in Chemistry. Candidates will become part of an international multidisciplinary team and will have to integrate in other laboratories of the network (academic and industrial) for training periods. The candidate must therefore have excellent personal skills and be able to work in a team. Women are especially encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n Specific requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n An excellent theoretical background, experience in supramolecular chemistry \/ organic synthesis \/ spectroscopy \/ physical chemistry \/ molecular modeling \/ photochemistry, and good laboratory skills are prerequisite for this ambitious project.<\/span><\/p>\n Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n The candidate will be enrolled in the PhD program in Nanosciences for Medicine and the Environment at the University of Bologna.
