The Doctoral Network Consortium seeks to improve our limited understanding of metastatic cancer treatment. Using an innovative, multidisciplinary, and transversal approach, Mac4Me seeks to understand the interactions between tumor cells and the host immune system at the metastatic site, with a deep molecular and mechanistic understanding of tumor cell-induced immune and matrix changes. It will utilize innovative animal-free organ-on-a-chip systems that mimic early metastasis in the brain, bone, and liver.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Job Duties<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The candidate will join the Stem Cell Glycobiology group, a dynamic and diverse group based at the University Park Biodiscovery Institute at the University of Nottingham. They will work alongside other PhD students, postdocs, technicians, and other staff in a supportive and collegial environment that will help them reach their full potential throughout their PhD. Previous PhD students in the group have gone on to successful careers in academic research, teaching, entrepreneurship (our spin-off company, Peptimatrix, hosts another Mac4Me PhD student), biotechnology, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The doctoral candidate will also work closely with other Mac4Me doctoral students through a diverse educational program with in-person and online meetings. It is worth noting that each doctoral candidate has planned short research stays with our European partners as an integral part of their doctoral program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Requirements<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for Marie Sk\u00f6dowska-Curie Early Stage Researchers. Specifically, at the time of appointment, the successful candidate must have less than four years of full-time equivalent research experience and must not have previously obtained a doctorate. Furthermore, they must not have resided in the United Kingdom (the recruiting host country) for more than 12 months in the three years immediately preceding the appointment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Candidates must have a bachelor&#8217;s degree or a master&#8217;s degree in biological, biochemical, chemical, or biomedical sciences, or a related discipline. Those who already hold a doctorate are not eligible to apply.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The language of MSCA is English, and candidates must have demonstrated proficiency in English to meet the requirements of the University of Nottingham.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Benefits<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The successful candidate will receive an annual salary of approximately \u00a342,000, with potential increases depending on eligibility for Family Allowance and pension contributions.
