MEPs will analyse the logistics capacity of several facilities located in Zaragoza, and discuss the impact of the European Transport Networks in Aragon, particularly in the context of cross-border connections.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A delegation of 9 MEPs from the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) will travel to Aragon from\u00a0<\/span>24 to 27 February<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to meet with national, regional and local authorities, and with various representatives of the transport sector, with the aim of assessing the region’s potential as a logistics hub in southern Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

The delegation will be led by MEP\u00a0<\/span>Elissavet Vozemberg-Vrionidi<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(PPE, Greece), and joined by MEPs\u00a0<\/span>Magdalena Adamowicz<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(PPE, Poland),\u00a0<\/span>Sergio Humberto<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(PPE, Portugal),\u00a0<\/span>Borja Gimenez Larraz<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(PPE, Spain),\u00a0<\/span>Andreas Schieder\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>(<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0S&D, Austria).\u00a0(S&D, Spain),\u00a0<\/span>Margarita de la Pisa Carrion<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(PfE, Spain),\u00a0<\/span>Roberts Zile<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(ECR, Latvia), and\u00a0<\/span>Cynthia N\u00ed Mhurch\u00fa<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(RENEW, Ireland).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The president of the delegation stressed that \u201cThis mission will be a great opportunity to learn more about the vital connections between the trans-European transport networks, to explore the logistics sector in Aragon in more depth, in particular during our visit to Zaragoza airport, and also to delve deeper into the field of tourism through our visit to the ski resort of Ast\u00fan.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to learning more about the challenges facing Aragon, meeting with authorities, transport infrastructure operators, businesses and civil society, and working towards our common goal of providing Europe, its citizens and businesses with a well-connected, reliable, efficient and sustainable transport network,\u201d added the MEP.<\/span><\/p>\n

The European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) has decided to organise this mission to Aragon to offer MEPs the opportunity to learn about the connections between the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T), transport policy and the logistics sector in Aragon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Zaragoza, thanks to its key geographical location between the Atlantic and Mediterranean TEN-T corridors and its multimodal freight transport infrastructure, is one of the most important multimodal logistics centres in Southern Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Institutional visits and meetings<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The visit will begin on\u00a0<\/span>Monday 24<\/span><\/strong><\/u>\u00a0February in Zaragoza, where the delegation will meet with the President of Aragon, Jorge Antonio Azc\u00f3n Navarro, and other members of his Executive in the Aljafer\u00eda.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday 24 February at\u00a0<\/span>18:45<\/span><\/u>\u00a0, the President of the European Parliament delegation, Elissavet Vozemberg-Vrionidi, and the President of Aragon, Jorge Antonio Azc\u00f3n, will make\u00a0<\/span>statements to the press.<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

On\u00a0<\/span>Tuesday 25<\/span><\/strong><\/u>\u00a0February, MEPs will visit Zaragoza Airport, the Zaragoza PLAZA logistics platform, and the companies INDITEX and Carreras, to learn first-hand about mobility projects, the main transport hubs funded by the EU, as well as dual-use infrastructures. They will also meet with regional and local authorities in Aragon to discuss the challenges of transport policy.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Graphic artists who wish to take pictures of the MEPs’ visit to the airport (meeting point at the Terminal: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday 25) must send their details (including ID) by next Monday to\u00a0<\/span>raquel.alonsoroldan@europarl.europa.eu\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

On\u00a0<\/span>Wednesday 26th<\/span><\/strong><\/u>\u00a0, the European Parliament delegation will travel to Jaca and Canfranc to meet with political representatives, business associations and civil society in order to discuss the impact of the European Transport Networks in Aragon, particularly in the context of cross-border connections.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The European Parliament delegation will hold a\u00a0<\/span>press conference<\/span><\/u>\u00a0on 26 February at 13:00, at the Hotel Canfranc Estaci\u00f3n to review the visit to Aragon. Journalists must register before Tuesday 25 February at 14:00, by<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0emailing\u00a0<\/span>raquel.alonsoroldan@europarl.europa.eu\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Following the press conference, MEPs will travel to Ast\u00fan to learn about the possibilities and challenges of tourism in high mountain areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

On\u00a0<\/span>Thursday 27th<\/span><\/strong><\/u>\u00a0, MEPs will return to Zaragoza to discuss local initiatives on sustainable urban mobility.<\/span><\/p>\n
