Do you want to contribute to the software R&amp;D at the heart of LHC data processing?<\/p>\n<p>Join the EP-SFT group at CERN, responsible for developing and maintaining core software packages used by the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, the world&#8217;s largest particle accelerator. You will become a core C++ software developer in the team developing the CernVM-FileSystem (CVMFS,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cernvm.web.cern.ch\/fs\">https:\/\/cernvm.web.cern.ch\/fs<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>CVMFS is a global, read-only filesystem that specializes in delivering software and helps to enable distributed scientific computing across cloud- and supercomputing sites at a global scale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties of the position<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In particular, you will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improve the performance and usability of the CVMFS client and publisher<\/li>\n<li>Work with cloud- and supercomputing facilities to make CVMFS more accessible<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the baseline support and maintenance tasks of the project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required selection criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Skills<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with software version control (e.g. git) and build tooling<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of the C++ language: how to write, compile and run programs; developing code for a package;<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of UNIX, in particular of the file API and filesystem concepts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Optional but a plus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with container technologies (e.g. kubernetes, docker)<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of the Go language<\/li>\n<li>Experience with writing networking code in C++<\/li>\n<li>Experience with HEP experiments code, their software lifecycle and build tools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Eligibility criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are a national of a\u00a0CERN Member or Associate Member State.<\/li>\n<li><strong>By the application deadline,<\/strong>\u00a0you have a\u00a0<strong>maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation<\/strong>\u00a0in STEM (or a related field)\u00a0<strong>and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor&#8217;s or Master&#8217;s degree<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants without University degree are not eligible.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A monthly stipend ranging between\u00a0<strong>5134<\/strong><strong>\u00a0and 5647<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Swiss Francs\u00a0(net of tax)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Coverage by CERN&#8217;s comprehensive\u00a0<strong>health scheme<\/strong>\u00a0(for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN\u00a0<strong>Pension Fund<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.<\/li>\n<li><strong>30 days of paid leave per year<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and\/or French.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Organisation\/Company \u2013 <\/strong>CERN &#8211; European Organization for Nuclear Research<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research Field<\/strong> \u2013 Recognised Researcher (R2)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Researcher Profile &#8211;<\/strong> Engineering \u00bb Systems engineering<\/p>\n<p><strong>Country<\/strong> \u2013 Switzerland<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline<\/strong> \u2013 13.01.2025 &#8211; 23:59 (Europe\/Zurich)<\/p>\n<p><strong>More information:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/euraxess.ec.europa.eu\/jobs\/297777\"><strong>Euraxess.\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe.
