This role offers a unique opportunity to work with state-of-the-art networking equipment and help shape the future DAQ (Data Acquisition) system for the CMS experiment at CERN.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/switzerland-93275_1280.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-154961\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/switzerland-93275_1280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"411\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Duties of the position<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CMS, one of two general-purpose particle physics experiments at CERN&#8217;s Large Hadron Collider (LHC), relies on a sophisticated DAQ system to aggregate and process collision data. Looking ahead to the High Luminosity LHC upgrade (2029), you&#8217;ll help design a high-speed Ethernet-based network capable of managing 1,000 100Gb\/s sources, aggregating to 200 nodes at 400Gb\/s, and forwarding data to thousands of processing nodes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you&#8217;re passionate about networking and want to make a lasting impact, we&#8217;d love to hear from you!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Work with Cutting-Edge Network Equipment: Gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art network technology and contribute to the design of the future DAQ network system.<\/li>\n<li>Install and Maintain the 400GE Test System: Set up and support the 400GE test system for the next-generation DAQ network.<\/li>\n<li>Perform Network Testing and Equipment Qualification: Conduct tests and qualify equipment to ensure compliance with DAQ requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Advance Network Monitoring Systems: Maintain and enhance both current and future network monitoring for seamless operations.<\/li>\n<li>Support Daily Operations: Perform regular monitoring and inspections to keep the data network at peak performance.<\/li>\n<li>Develop Tools for Network Analysis: Create and maintain tools for network measurement and performance analysis using C and Python.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate and Share Expertise: Present results and collaborate within CERN and across the wider community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Required selection criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Skills<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and a collaborative approach to problem-solving<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of communication technologies and protocols, including network switching, routing, DHCP, and DNS&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in the Linux operating system, particularly in network configuration and the ability to run network testing<\/li>\n<li>Experience in analyzing and debugging network systems<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in C programming; experience with Python is a plus<\/li>\n<li>Previous experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) or DAQ systems is a plus<\/li>\n<li>Relevant certifications in networking or telecommunications is a plus<\/li>\n<li>Experience with containers (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of the Linux kernel is a plus<\/li>\n<li>Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Concerning eligibility,<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>You are a national of a\u00a0CERN Member or Associate Member State.<\/li>\n<li>You have a professional background in Network or software engineering (or a related field) and have either:\n<ul>\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>Master&#8217;s degree with 2 to 6 years<\/strong>of post-graduation professional experience;<\/li>\n<li>or a\u00a0<strong>PhD with no more than 3 years<\/strong>of post-graduation professional experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Benefits <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Working hours: 40 hours per week<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Target start date: 01-February-2025<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This position involves:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Interventions in underground installations.<\/li>\n<li>A valid driving licence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Field of work: Software Engineering and IT<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>A monthly stipend ranging between\u00a0<strong>6212\u00a0and 6828\u00a0Swiss Francs per month (net of tax)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Coverage by CERN&#8217;s comprehensive\u00a0<strong>health scheme<\/strong>(for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN\u00a0<strong>Pension Fund<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant;
