In line with the European Council&#8217;s role as set out in the Treaty on European Union, the leaders:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">elected Ant\u00f3nio Costa as President of the European Council<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">proposed Ursula von der Leyen as candidate for President of the European Commission<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">considered Kaja Kallas to be the appropriate candidate for High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Next, the proposed candidate for President of the European Commission will need to be elected by the European Parliament by a majority of its component members.
