These steps require human rights to be protected and civil society as well as media to be able to operate freely. They also refer to the need for depolarisation and the fight against disinformation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nevertheless, and despite large protests and unequivocal calls by the international community, the Georgian government ruling majority adopted the law \u201con transparency of foreign influence\u201d in Parliament in third reading. The EU has clearly and repeatedly stated that the spirit and content of the law are not in line with EU core norms and values. It will undermine the work of civil society and independent media while freedom of association and freedom of expression are fundamental rights at the core of Georgia&#8217;s commitments as part of the Association Agreement and of any EU accession path.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/ukraine-moldova-and-georgias-perspective-to-become-members-of-the-eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/VON-DER.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/ukraine-moldova-and-georgias-perspective-to-become-members-of-the-eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia&#8217;s perspective to become members of the EU<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The adoption of this law negatively impacts Georgia&#8217;s progress on the EU path. The choice on the way forward is in Georgia&#8217;s hands.
