Almost nine in ten (89%) agree with providing\u00a0<strong>humanitarian support<\/strong>\u00a0to the people affected by the war, and more than eight in ten (84%) agree with welcoming into the EU\u00a0<strong>people fleeing the war<\/strong>. 72% agree with providing\u00a0<strong>financial support<\/strong>\u00a0to Ukraine. The same proportion (72%) support\u00a0<strong>economic sanctions<\/strong>\u00a0on the Russian government, companies, and individuals. Around six in ten approve of the EU granting\u00a0<strong>candidate status<\/strong>\u00a0to Ukraine (61%) and of the EU financing the purchase and supply of\u00a0<strong>military equipment<\/strong>\u00a0to Ukraine (60%).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/flag-3370970_1280.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13985\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/flag-3370970_1280.jpg\" alt=\"Bandera Uni\u00f3n Europea ondeando\" width=\"1089\" height=\"726\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/flag-3370970_1280.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/flag-3370970_1280-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/flag-3370970_1280-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/flag-3370970_1280-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1089px) 100vw, 1089px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most respondents are satisfied with the EU&#8217;s response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine (57%). 54% of Europeans say the same about their national government&#8217;s response.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>A stronger and more independent EU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the face of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, over eight in ten respondents agree that the EU should<strong>\u00a0invest massively in renewable energies<\/strong>\u00a0(83%) and reduce its dependency on Russian sources of energy as soon as possible (81%).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More than two thirds of EU citizens (69%) are for\u00a0<strong>a common foreign policy\u00a0<\/strong>of the Member States and agree the EU has sufficient power and tools to defend the economic interests of Europe in the global economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More than three quarters of Europeans (77%) are in favour of\u00a0<strong>a common defence and security policy<\/strong>\u00a0among EU Member States. This opinion is shared by more than six in ten respondents in each Member State.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nearly seven in ten respondents (69%) are in favour of a\u00a0<strong>common European policy on migration\u00a0<\/strong>while 68% support a\u00a0<strong>common European asylum system<\/strong>. At the same time, three quarters of respondents (75%) are in favour of a\u00a0<strong>reinforcement of EU external borders<\/strong>\u00a0with more European border guards and coast guards.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eurobarometer-tv-still-main-source-for-news-but-social-media-is-gaining-ground\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/netflix-gd50dff580_1920.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eurobarometer-tv-still-main-source-for-news-but-social-media-is-gaining-ground\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eurobarometer: TV still main source for news but social media is gaining ground<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>War in Ukraine and immigration as the main concerns for the EU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">28% of Europeans think immigration on the one hand and the war in Ukraine on the other hand are among the two most important issues facing the EU. Then comes the international situation (24%), followed by the \u2018rising prices\/inflation\/cost of living&#8217; (20%, ranking fourth while it was the first concern last spring).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Europeans see the EU as a place of stability in a troubled world<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>A positive perception of the EU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 100th Standard Eurobarometer survey released today shows that seven EU citizens out of 10 (70%) believe that the European Union is\u00a0<strong>a place of stability<\/strong>\u00a0in a troubled world. This is the case for the majority of respondents in all Member States. In addition, more than six in ten citizens (61%) are\u00a0<strong>optimistic about the future<\/strong>\u00a0of the EU.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The 100th edition of the Standard Eurobarometer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Set up as a tool to reveal Europeans to each other, the Eurobarometer is key to better understand the evolution of the public opinion in Europe.
