It will help to jointly address new global challenges such as the repercussions of the\u00a0<strong>Russian invasion of Ukraine,<\/strong>\u00a0including\u00a0<strong>global inflation<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>supply chain disruptions<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>energy crisis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Advanced Framework Agreement (AFA)<\/strong>\u00a0consists of\u00a0<strong>political and cooperation\u00a0<\/strong>and \u00a0<strong>trade and investment\u00a0<\/strong>components. The\u00a0<strong>interim Trade Agreement (iTA)\u00a0<\/strong>deals with\u00a0<strong>trade\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>investment liberalisation<\/strong>, those elements of the trade and investment component of the AFA that fall exclusively within the EU\u2019s competence, while investment protection provisions are covered by the Advanced Framework Agreement (AFA).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This means that the iTA will only need \u00a0be ratified by the EU and not by the individual member states.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The iTA will expire when the AFA, subject to ratification by all member states, enters into force.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Advanced Framework Agreement (AFA)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agreement is founded on shared universal values such as<strong>\u00a0democracy<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>human rights<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It \u00a0includes cooperation in areas such as\u00a0<strong>health<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>the<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>environment<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>climate change<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>ocean governance<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>energy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>tax<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>education and culture<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>labour<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>employment and social affairs<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>science and technology<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>transport<\/strong>. It also addresses legal cooperation, the rule of law, money laundering and terrorist financing, organised crime and corruption. Finally, the AFA covers the EU\u2019s standard clauses on the International Criminal Court (ICC)<em>,<\/em>\u00a0Weapons of Mass Destructions (WMD), Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and\u00a0<strong>counter-terrorism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-and-chile-strengthen-cooperation-on-sustainable-critical-raw-materials-supply-chains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/bandera-chile-eu-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-and-chile-strengthen-cooperation-on-sustainable-critical-raw-materials-supply-chains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU and Chile strengthen cooperation on sustainable critical raw materials supply chains<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The trade component of the AFA broadens the scope of the current bilateral trade framework and adjusts it to the new political and economic global challenges, to the new reality of the EU-Chile partnership and to the level of ambition of recently concluded trade agreements and negotiations conducted by the EU and Chile.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Interim Trade Agreement (iTA)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EU is Chile\u2019s third-largest trade partner. Around\u00a0<strong>99.9% of EU exports will be tariff free<\/strong>\u00a0on the entry into force of the agreement, which is expected to increase EU exports to Chile by up to EUR 4.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agreement will bring greater access to\u00a0<strong>raw materials<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>clean fuel\u00a0<\/strong>such as lithium, copper and hydrogen, which are crucial for the transition to the green economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It will also make it easier for EU companies to provide their services in Chile, including in delivery, telecommunications, maritime transport and financial services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It will provide the same treatment for EU\u00a0<strong>investors<\/strong>\u00a0in Chile as for Chilean investors and will give EU companies improved access to Chilean\u00a0<strong>government procurement<\/strong>\u00a0contracts for goods, services, works and works concessions, and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agreement includes a dedicated chapter on\u00a0<strong>small and medium-sized enterprises<\/strong>\u00a0in order to help ensure that smaller businesses fully benefit from the agreement, including by cutting red tape.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Next steps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The signing ceremony of the agreements is expected to take place in mid-December. The European Parliament will then be asked to give its consent, so that the Council can adopt the decisions to conclude the agreements.
