Rushing to the rescue are tools that help journalists and fact-checkers verify such information, one of which is the <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"http:\/\/weverify-demo.ontotext.com\/#!\/searchViewResults?orderBy=date&amp;location=http:%2F%2Fweverify.eu%2Fresource%2FConcept%2Fbvyx&amp;page=1&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Database of Known Fakes<\/a>. Called DBKF for short, the database was developed as part of an earlier EU project called <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"http:\/\/weverify.eu\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WeVerify<\/a>. Now, it has been further enhanced under the EU-funded <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.veraai.eu\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vera.ai<\/a> project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The DBKF\u2019s main purpose is to help professionals such as journalists, open-source intelligence investigators and human rights defenders save time and be more efficient in their fact-checking and debunking tasks. Has a claim, image or video already been debunked by trusted, <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ifcncodeofprinciples.poynter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IFCN-approved<\/a> fact-checkers? Users can now easily verify this, and also see who did it, when and how it was done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLeveraging text analysis, visual similarity and semantic technologies, DBKF provides powerful search functionalities (beyond a keyword search) and enables insights into disinformation campaigns,\u201d reports a <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.veraai.eu\/posts\/the-database-of-known-fakes-a-useful-tool-in-the-verification-workflow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news item<\/a> posted on the vera.ai website. Users can search using a key phrase, filter by language, fact-checking source, author, location and other concepts, and sort results by date or by relevance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/the-european-union-will-extend-geographical-indications-to-artisanal-and-industrial-products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/IMG_20230322_121951-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/jornadas-lucha-contra-la-desinformacion-la-seguridad-nacional-en-el-marco-de-la-estrategia-de-la-ue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jornadas \u201cLucha contra la desinformaci\u00f3n: la Seguridad Nacional en el marco de la estrategia de la UE\u201d<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Multilingual searches enable users to get results in seven languages all at once. Location or concept filters also make it easier to compare how mentions differ in the various languages, allowing for greater insight into disinformation differences across contexts or regions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The database\u2019s main focus is on debunking EU sources. However, as the news item notes, it \u201calso strives to cover fact-checking content across the globe (e.g. North America, Africa, Asia) to ensure a diversity of contexts and perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is not only the above professionals who have access to the database. The DBKF is also available to the public, so researchers investigating how misinformation is spread or citizens wanting to check whether what they have watched or read is true also have access to this valuable tool. A <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xBypSsW2-TE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">video<\/a> posted on the verai.ai YouTube channel provides details on how the database works.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__title\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Online training<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The DBKF\u2019s search functionalities have been integrated into the award-winning <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.invid-project.eu\/tools-and-services\/invid-verification-plugin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">InVID-WeVerify plugin<\/a>. An online training module has now been organised by the European Digital Media Observatory in collaboration with verai.ai and two other bodies to help users master the InVID-WeVerify verification toolbox.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The training is open to all stakeholders fighting disinformation. Participants will learn how to use the advanced tools needed by fact-checkers, journalists and researchers fighting disinformation, and get insights on new features, such as the vera.ai (vera.ai: VERification Assisted by Artificial Intelligence) project\u2019s synthetic media detector. Other benefits include access to the beta release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The online session will be held on 6 December 2023, from 16:00 to 17:30 CET. Applications close on 27 November at 17:00 CET (Florence time).
