Climate change is here to impact both negatively.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/daylight-daytime-fisherman-916405.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14488 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/daylight-daytime-fisherman-916405-300x191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/daylight-daytime-fisherman-916405-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/daylight-daytime-fisherman-916405-768x489.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/daylight-daytime-fisherman-916405-1024x652.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to findings published in the journal <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/363\/6430\/979\">\u2018Science\u2019<\/a> climate change is endangering fish around the world reducing populations by up to 35 % in coastal regions near China and Japan. Ocean warming has led to a 4 % global decline in sustainable catches. This is the largest amount of fish that can be caught without depleting stocks long term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThat 4 percent decline sounds small but it\u2019s 1.4 million metric tons of fish from 1930 to 2010\u201d lead researcher Dr Chris Free a quantitative ecologist at the University of California Santa Barbara told <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/28\/climate\/fish-climate-change.html\">\u2018The New York Times\u2019<\/a>. \u201cFish provide a vital source of protein for over half of the global population and some 56 million people worldwide are supported in some way by marine fisheries.\u201d He added: \u201cThe ecosystems in East Asia have seen some of the largest decline in fisheries productivity. And that region is home to some of the largest growing human populations and populations that are highly dependent on seafood.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Are fish in hot water? Blame soaring ocean temperatures<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">East Asia supports the fastest-growing populations and has very big seafood demands. Shrinking fish stocks in these regions are troubling because as stocks continue to plummet, East Asian countries could start importing fish from other parts of the world. This will drive up prices. Overfishing also intensifies climate change effects. Removing the largest fish diminishes a population\u2019s reproductive capacity and makes it more vulnerable to global warming over time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Research shows that not all fish suffered from ocean warming. In fact, some species have benefited from warming waters.
