The package will help the freight sector do its part in the EU achieving its Green Deal goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During intermodal transport operations, one loading unit, such as a container, is moved via a combination of lorry, train, barge, ship or plane. Combined transport is a sort of intermodal transport\u00a0<strong>combining the flexibility of road transport<\/strong>, which would still be used for the first\/last leg of a journey to ensure that any location in the EU can be reached,\u00a0<strong>with the environmental performcance of rail, inland waterways or short sea shipping <\/strong>for the main leg of the journey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The revision will make intermodal transport <strong>more efficient and competitive<\/strong>. It\u00a0<strong>refocuses support on operations that reduce\u00a0 by at least 40% the negative externalities compared to road-only operations<\/strong>\u00a0between the same starting and end points. Digital platforms established under the electronic freight transport information Regulation (<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/EN\/legal-content\/summary\/electronic-freight-transport-information.html\">eFTI<\/a>) will provide a calculation tool allowing transport organisers to prove whether their operation is eligible for support. They will submit the necessary information in an accessible manner; accredited digital systems will do the rest.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/inversion-y-desarrollo-de-los-transportes-en-la-ue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/david-herron-S5jD0E8DOC0-unsplash-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/transport-investment-and-development-in-the-eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transport investment and development in the EU<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alongside existing regulatory measures, the proposal introduces an exemption from temporary driving bans, such as weekend driving bans for combined transport. The aim is to improve the use of terminal and other infrastructure capacity by allowing trucks carrying out the short feeder legs to reach terminals as and when they need to, based on train, barge or ship departure times.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The proposal sets Member States a competitiveness target to reduce by at least 10% the average door-to-door cost of combined transport operations within 7 years, and requires them to put in place the policies needed to achieve this.
