While the report highlights some encouraging\u00a0<strong>signs of progress<\/strong>, it also emphasises that\u00a0<strong>efforts will need to at least double<\/strong> to reach the ambitious targets set for the end of this decade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"four wide computer twelve wide mobile four wide tablet column column-blocks-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"block __grid teaserGrid centered one\">\n<div class=\"ui stackable stretched one column grid\">\n<div class=\"column grid-block-teaser\">\n<div class=\"ui fluid card u-card max-2-lines title-max-2-lines has--text--center primary\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<h3 class=\"header\">Climate and energy progress to 2030<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EU has\u00a0<strong>reduced net greenhouse gas emissions<\/strong><strong>\u00a0including international aviation, by 31% compared to 1990 levels<\/strong>, while simultaneously fostering economic growth. Against the backdrop of soaring natural gas prices,\u00a0<strong>2022 witnessed\u00a0<\/strong><strong>a 2% reduction<\/strong>\u00a0in greenhouse gas emissions, driven by substantial decreases in the buildings and industrial sectors, while emissions from energy supply and transport saw an increase.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/do-you-know-what-the-eu-has-done-to-promote-and-support-the-development-and-use-of-clean-technologies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/pexels-singkham-1108572-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/do-you-know-what-the-eu-has-done-to-promote-and-support-the-development-and-use-of-clean-technologies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Do you know what the EU has done to promote and support the development and use of clean technologies?<br \/>\n<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To achieve the 2030 emission reduction target, the pace of annual greenhouse gas emission reductions in Europe must more than double compared with the annual progress seen since 2005, the EEA report says.\u00a0<strong>More rapid reductions\u00a0<\/strong>are particularly needed for the emissions from road transport, buildings, agriculture, waste and small industries, all of which are covered under the\u00a0<strong>Effort Sharing Regulation<\/strong>. Reductions in energy consumption and growth of renewable energy must accelerate even faster to reach the 2030 targets as included in the recently adopted Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Directives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the same time, the report indicates\u00a0<strong>noticeable progress in specific areas<\/strong>. While\u00a0<strong>wind and solar<\/strong>\u00a0held a modest presence in the 2005 electricity sector, their estimated share in electricity production has surpassed 20% in 2022. The recent roll-out of solar deployment was particularly remarkable as it grew by 28% over the course of 2022. The report also notes a remarkable surge in the sales of\u00a0<strong>heat pumps<\/strong>\u00a0during 2022 and the increasing share of\u00a0<strong>electric vehicles<\/strong>, accounting for a 22% share in the total new car sales last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In March 2023, Member States reported\u00a0<strong>more than 3000 policies and measures<\/strong>\u00a0to achieve the energy and climate objectives. They project that measures already in place across Europe would lead to a reduction of 43% in 2030 for total net greenhouse gas emissions including international aviation, while further measures that are currently being planned would boost reductions to 48%. Last year, Member States only projected this reduction to total 41%, indicating a\u00a0<strong>joint increase in ambition across Europe<\/strong>\u00a0in the past year.
