Reading these, you might be excused for thinking that writers and photographers are soon to go the way of the elevator operator, automated out of existence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One question Parr, a professor at the Politics and International Studies institute of the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, gets asked nearly every day is: \u201cAre the robots coming for my job?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBecause AI is developing so quickly, it\u2019s difficult to make predictions about its impact with any degree of confidence, meaning everything said on this topic must be taken with a pinch of salt,\u201d warns Parr. That said, Parr\u2019s standard answer to this question is that yes, AI (or technology in general) will take some people\u2019s jobs \u2013 but probably not your job.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI think the chances of technology making middle-class workers redundant is relatively low,\u201d he explains. \u201cBut the chances that this technology will change the kinds of jobs that are available in the future are much higher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Parr, the reason for this is that although technology develops fast, its uptake is rather slow \u2013 meaning its impact is gradual instead of immediate. \u201cFor people currently working in middle-class professions, the effect AI will have on their job stability is going to be rather limited,\u201d he says. \u201cWhere we will see this technology have a more immediate impact is on the fields that the next generation of middle-class workers choose to study.\u201d<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/inteligencia-artificial-amenazas-y-oportunidades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Inteligancia-Artificial.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/artificial-intelligence-threats-and-opportunities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artificial intelligence: threats and opportunities<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h6 class=\"c-article__title\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">AI will change the way you work<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This isn\u2019t to say that today\u2019s middle-class workers are off the hook. \u201cWhile AI is unlikely to take your job, it will definitely change your job,\u201d remarks Parr.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">As he explains, a typical job involves performing a variety of tasks \u2013 research, writing, coordinating meetings, etc. While AI won\u2019t eliminate all these tasks, it may eliminate, or at least change, some of them. The net result will be that the nature of one\u2019s job will change over time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat we often see, especially in middle-class jobs, is that the rote, mundane aspects of a job become automated,\u201d he says. The good news is that this frees up time for more high-level, critical thinking and creative tasks. \u201cI fully expect that AI will change the nature of middle-class professions, increasing demand for high cognitive management skills, good communication skills, creativity, etc.,\u201d adds Parr.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In other words, the immediate effect of AI won\u2019t be to take our jobs away, but to help us do our jobs better. \u201cIn this sense, AI shouldn\u2019t be seen as a threat, but as another tool we can all use to help improve the efficiency of the tasks we carry out,\u201d notes Parr.
