President of the European Commission, Ursula<strong>\u00a0von der Leyen,<\/strong>\u00a0was among those who subscribed to the G7 leaders&#8217; statement issued by the 2023 Japan G7 presidency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President\u00a0<strong>von der Leyen<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>said:\u00a0<em>\u201cThe potential benefits of Artificial Intelligence for citizens and the economy are huge. However, the acceleration in the capacity of AI also brings new challenges.\u00a0<\/em><em>Already a regulatory frontrunner with the AI Act, the EU is also contributing to AI\u00a0<\/em><em>guardrails and governance at global level. I am pleased to welcome the G7 international Guiding Principles and the voluntary Code of Conduct, reflecting EU values to promote trustworthy AI. I call on AI developers to sign and implement this Code of Conduct as soon as possible<\/em><em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-elections-at-risk-with-rise-of-ai-enabled-information-manipulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ENISA.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-elections-at-risk-with-rise-of-ai-enabled-information-manipulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU Elections at Risk with Rise of AI-Enabled Information Manipulation<br \/>\n<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ensuring safety and trustworthiness of the technology<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The eleven Guiding Principles adopted by the leaders of the seven countries and the EU, which make up the G7, provide guidance for organisations developing, deploying and using advanced AI systems, such as foundation models and generative AI, to promote\u00a0<strong>safety and trustworthiness of the technology<\/strong>. They include commitments to mitigate risks and misuse and identify vulnerabilities, to encourage responsible information sharing, reporting of incidents, and investment in cybersecurity as well as a labelling system to enable users to identify AI-generated content.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Informed by the results of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu\/en\/news\/commission-gathers-views-g7-guiding-principles-generative-artificial-intelligence\">stakeholder survey<\/a>, these principles have been jointly developed by the EU with the other G7 members, under the Hiroshima Artificial Intelligence Process. The Guiding Principles have in turn served as the basis to compile a\u00a0<strong>Code of Conduct<\/strong>, which will provide detailed and practical guidance for organisations developing AI. The voluntary Code of Conduct will also promote responsible governance of AI globally. Both documents will be reviewed and updated as necessary, including through inclusive multistakeholder consultations, to ensure they remain fit for purpose and responsive to this rapidly evolving technology. The G7 leaders have called on organisations developing advanced AI systems to commit to the application of the International Code of Conduct.
