Biosecurity should be enhanced in fur animal farms.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/avian-influenza-september-2023.jpg.webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143901\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/avian-influenza-september-2023.jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/avian-influenza-september-2023.jpg.webp 600w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/avian-influenza-september-2023.jpg-300x169.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-3\">\n<div class=\"branded-border-image field-image news__field-image\">\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Between 24 June and 1 September 2023, HPAI outbreaks were reported in domestic (25) and wild (482) birds across 21 European countries,\u00a0according to the\u00a0<a title=\"Avian influenza overview June\u2013September 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.efsa.europa.eu\/en\/efsajournal\/pub\/8328\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"1f7ea006-b7f0-4638-9db9-7be5b4adbf49\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\">latest report<\/a>\u00a0on avian influenza by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), and the EU reference laboratory (EURL).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wild and domestic carnivores continued to be the most affected mammal\u00a0<a class=\"d-inline border-0 px-0 py-0 onomasticon text-dark btn btn-link popover\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" type=\"button\" aria-label=\"Click to see definition of species\" data-bs-toggle=\"popover\" data-bs-html=\"true\" data-bs-title=\"species\" data-bs-trigger=\"manual\" data-bs-placement=\"top\" data-once=\"efsaThemePopover\">species<\/a>\u00a0with Finland reporting 26 outbreaks in fur farms keeping\u00a0America mink, red and Arctic foxes, and common raccoon. The most likely source of introduction was contact with wild gulls, but between-farm transmission cannot be completely excluded. Within-farm transmission occurred with some contact animals not showing any clinical signs of infection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ECDC assessed that the risk of infection with HPAI virus in Europe remains low for the general\u00a0<a class=\"d-inline border-0 px-0 py-0 onomasticon text-dark btn btn-link popover\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" type=\"button\" aria-label=\"Click to see definition of population\" data-bs-toggle=\"popover\" data-bs-html=\"true\" data-bs-title=\"population\" data-bs-trigger=\"manual\" data-bs-placement=\"top\" data-once=\"efsaThemePopover\">population<\/a>\u00a0, and low to moderate for occupationally or otherwise exposed people to infected birds or mammals (wild or domestic). To further reduce the risk of infection, experts recommend avoiding\u00a0<a class=\"d-inline border-0 px-0 py-0 onomasticon text-dark btn btn-link popover\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" type=\"button\" aria-label=\"Click to see definition of exposure\" data-bs-toggle=\"popover\" data-bs-html=\"true\" data-bs-title=\"exposure\" data-bs-trigger=\"manual\" data-bs-placement=\"top\" data-once=\"efsaThemePopover\">exposure<\/a> to dead or diseased seabirds or mammals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Now available: improved Bird Flu Radar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An improved version of EFSA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/app.bto.org\/mmt\/avian_influenza_map\/avian_influenza_map.jsp\">Bird Flu Radar<\/a>\u00a0is available to everyone. New features allow users to explore weekly predictions of the\u00a0<a class=\"d-inline border-0 px-0 py-0 onomasticon text-dark btn btn-link popover\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" type=\"button\" aria-label=\"Click to see definition of probability\" data-bs-toggle=\"popover\" data-bs-html=\"true\" data-bs-title=\"probability\" data-bs-trigger=\"manual\" data-bs-placement=\"top\" data-once=\"efsaThemePopover\">probability<\/a>\u00a0of HPAI introduction in wild birds. Users may subscribe to receive weekly alert emails for their areas of interest.
