This happened because the imports from Russia decreased, and other importers were sought. The energy market is priced after the marginal fuel, which means that the price of natural gas affects the prices of the electricity market. Mechanisms were constructed to alleviate the pressure on consumers, and one of these were subsidies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the first half of 2023, average household electricity prices in the\u00a0<a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:European_Union_(EU)\">EU<\/a>\u00a0continued to show an increase compared with the same period in 2022, from \u20ac25.3 per 100 kWh to \u20ac28.9 per 100 kWh. Average gas prices also increased compared with the same period in 2022, from \u20ac8.6 per 100 kWh to \u20ac11.9 per 100 kWh in the first half of 2023. These prices are the highest recorded by Eurostat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The price without taxes on electricity and natural gas is decreasing.\u00a0The countries, in part, withdraw their support measures. As a result, the final customer prices with taxes are slightly higher than the previous reference period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Compared with the first half of 2022, in the first half of 2023 the share of taxes in electricity bills dropped from 23% to 19% (-4%) and in the gas bill from 27% to 19% (-8%), with all EU countries having in place governmental allowances and subsidies or reducing taxes and levies to mitigate high-energy costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This information comes from\u00a0<a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/web\/energy\/database\">data on electricity and gas prices<\/a>\u00a0published recently by Eurostat. A price cap will be incorporated and this will lower the prices at all levels quite significantly in 2023. Large increases in national currency were also registered in Lithuania (+88%), Romania (+77%) and Latvia (+74%).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Large decreases in national currency were registered in Spain (-41%), followed by Denmark (-16%). Smaller decreases were reported in Portugal (-6%), Malta (-3%) and Luxembourg with close to 0 (-0.4%).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Expressed in euro, average household electricity prices in the first half of 2023 were lowest in Bulgaria (\u20ac11.4 per 100 kWh), Hungary (\u20ac11.6), and Malta (\u20ac12.6) and highest in the Netherlands (\u20ac47.5), Belgium (\u20ac43.5), Romania (\u20ac42.0), and Germany (\u20ac41.3).<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/la-comision-europea-prorroga-la-medida-espanola-y-portuguesa-para-reducir-los-precios-de-la-electricidad-hasta-finales-de-ano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/hand-g2d4483033_1280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/the-european-commission-extends-the-spanish-and-portuguese-measure-to-reduce-electricity-prices-until-the-end-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The European Commission extends the Spanish and Portuguese measure to reduce electricity prices until the end of the year<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h6 class=\"ecl-u-type-heading-2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Gas prices rising in almost all EU members<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Between the first half of 2022 and the first half of 2023, gas prices increased in 20 out of the 24 EU members that report gas prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gas prices (in national currencies) surged the most in Latvia (+139%), Romania (+134%), Austria (+103%), the Netherlands (+99%) and Ireland (+73%).
