Each member state will contribute to this common target.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/windmills-2181904_1280.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-142104 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/windmills-2181904_1280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"506\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/windmills-2181904_1280.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/windmills-2181904_1280-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/windmills-2181904_1280-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/windmills-2181904_1280-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All member states will contribute to achieving more ambitious sector-specific targets in transport, industry, buildings and district heating and cooling. The purpose of the sub-targets is to speed up the integration of renewables in sectors where incorporation has been slower.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Transport<\/span><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Member states will have the possibility to choose between:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>a binding target of a 14.5% reduction in greenhouse gas intensity in transport from the use of renewables by 2030<\/li>\n<li>or a binding share of at least 29% of renewables within the final consumption of energy in the transport sector by 2030<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new rules establish a binding combined sub-target of 5.5% for\u00a0<strong>advanced biofuels<\/strong>\u00a0(generally derived from non-food-based feedstocks) and\u00a0<strong>renewable fuels of non-biological origin<\/strong>\u00a0(mostly renewable hydrogen and hydrogen-based synthetic fuels) in the share of renewable energies supplied to the transport sector. Within this target, there is a minimum requirement of 1% of\u00a0<strong>renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs)\u00a0<\/strong>in the share of renewable energies supplied to the transport sector in 2030.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Industry<\/span><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The directive states that industry will need to increase the use of renewable energy annually by 1.6%. Member states agreed that 42% of the\u00a0<strong>hydrogen<\/strong>\u00a0used in industry should come from\u00a0<strong>renewable fuels of non-biological origin<\/strong>\u00a0(RFNBOs) by 2030 and 60% by 2035.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Member states will have the possibility to discount the contribution of RFNBOs in industry use by 20% under two conditions:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>if the member states\u2019 national contribution to the binding overall EU target meets their expected contribution<\/li>\n<li>the share of hydrogen from fossil fuels consumed in the member state is not more 23% in 2030 and 20% in 2035<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Buildings, heating and cooling<\/span><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new rules set an indicative target of at least a 49% renewable energy share in\u00a0<strong>buildings in 2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Renewable targets for\u00a0<strong>heating and cooling will gradually increase,<\/strong>\u00a0with a binding increase of 0.8% per year at national level until 2026 and 1.1% from 2026 to 2030. The minimum annual average rate applicable to all member states is complemented by additional indicative increases calculated specifically for each member state.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Bioenergy<\/span><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The directive strengthens the sustainability criteria for the use of biomass for energy, in order to reduce the risk of unsustainable bioenergy production. Member states will ensure that the cascading principle is applied, with a focus on support schemes and with due regard to national specificities.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Faster permits for projects<\/span><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Permit procedures for renewable energy projects will be accelerated. The intention is to fast- track the deployment of renewable energies in the context of the EU\u2019s REPowerEU plan to become independent from Russian fossil fuels, after Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Member states will design renewables acceleration areas where renewable energy projects will undergo simplified and fast permit-granting processes. Renewable energy deployment will also be presumed to be of \u2018overriding public interest\u2019, which will limit the grounds of legal objections to new installations.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/que-hace-la-ue-para-fomentar-el-desarrollo-de-la-energia-renovable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/20221128PHT58206-cl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/what-is-the-eu-doing-to-promote-the-development-of-renewable-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What is the EU doing to promote the development of renewable energy?<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Next steps<\/span><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The directive has been formally adopted. It will now be published in the EU\u2019s Official Journal and enter into force 20 days later.
