In contrast, the lowest average ages, all under 23 years old, were registered in <strong>Finland<\/strong> (21.3 years), <strong>Sweden<\/strong> (21.4), <strong>Denmark<\/strong> (21.7) and <strong>Estonia<\/strong> (22.7).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the space of 10 years, the average age of young people leaving their parental home increased in 14 EU countries, most notably in <strong>Croatia<\/strong> (+1.8 years), <strong>Greece<\/strong> (+1.7) and <strong>Spain<\/strong> (+1.6). In 2012, the lowest average in the EU was in Sweden, where young people left their parental home at 19.9 years old, however, in 10 years that average increased by 1.5 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the EU level, between 2012 and 2022, the average age varied slightly, with the lowest being 26.2 years (2019) and the highest 26.5 (2012, 2014, 2020 and 2021).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Estimated average age of young people leaving their parental home (2022, age in years)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-138940 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"695\" height=\"590\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-1.png 695w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-1-300x255.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 695px) 100vw, 695px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-heading-2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Who leaves the parental home later? Men or women?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the EU, on average, men left the parental home later than women: men at the age of 27.3 years and women at 25.4 years in 2022. This difference was observed in all countries, i.e., young women moved out of the parental home on average earlier than young men.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Men left their parental home, on average, after the age of 30 in 9 EU countries (<strong>Croatia<\/strong>, <strong>Bulgaria<\/strong>, <strong>Greece<\/strong>, <strong>Slovakia<\/strong>, <strong>Spain<\/strong>, <strong>Italy<\/strong>, <strong>Malta<\/strong>, <strong>Slovenia<\/strong> and <strong>Portugal<\/strong>), while this is the case for women in only one country: <strong>Croatia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-138942 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"4000\" height=\"2250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa.png 4000w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-1280x720.png 1280w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jovenes-dejando-casa-2048x1152.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 4000px) 100vw, 4000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The widest gender gap was found in <strong>Romania<\/strong>, where young men left at 29.9 years and women at 25.4 years (4.5-year gender gap), followed by <strong>Bulgaria<\/strong> (4.1-year gap), with men moving out at 32.3 years and women at 28.2 years.
