It offers functionalities such as messaging, calling, video meetings, file sharing and brings together Microsoft&#8217;s and third-party workplace tools and other applications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The coronavirus outbreak accelerated a shift to remote working as well as businesses&#8217; transition to the cloud and the adoption of cloud-based software for communication and collaboration. The transition to the cloud has enabled the emergence of new market players and business models offering customers the ability to use multiple types of software from different providers, without the need to maintain an in-house data centre. Cloud-based software, including the products under investigation, are typically distributed on a subscription basis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Microsoft includes\u00a0<em>Teams<\/em>\u00a0in its well-entrenched cloud-based productivity suites for business customers\u00a0<em>Office 365<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Microsoft 365<\/em>. The Commission is concerned that Microsoft may be\u00a0<strong>abusing and defending\u00a0<\/strong>its market position in<strong>\u00a0productivity software by restricting competition\u00a0<\/strong>in the European Economic Area (\u2018EEA&#8217;)\u00a0<strong>for communication and collaboration products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In particular, the Commission is concerned that Microsoft may grant\u00a0<em>Teams<\/em> a distribution advantage by not giving customers the choice on whether or not to include access to that product when they subscribe to their productivity suites and may have limited the interoperability between its productivity suites and competing offerings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/antitrust-commission-accepts-commitments-by-amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/amazon-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/antitrust-commission-accepts-commitments-by-amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antitrust: Commission accepts commitments by Amazon<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These practices\u00a0<strong>may constitute anti-competitive tying or bundling<\/strong>\u00a0and prevent suppliers of other communication and collaboration tools from competing, to the detriment of customers in the European Economic Area (\u2018EEA&#8217;).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If proven, the behaviour under investigation may breach EU competition rules, which prohibit the abuse of a dominant position (Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (\u2018TFEU&#8217;)).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Commission will carry out its in-depth investigation as a matter of priority.
