It also provides for travel restrictions and asset freeze measures that could be imposed against persons responsible for, supporting or involved in\u00a0<strong>Iran\u2019s UAV\u2019s programme<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This new regime complements the three previously adopted packages of drone-related sanctions targeting individuals and entities, the latest of which in February 2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Council today also decided to\u00a0<strong>list six Iranian individuals<\/strong>\u00a0under two already existing sanctions regimes for Iran\u2019s military support to Russia\u2019s war of aggression against Ukraine (<strong>drones<\/strong>) and to the Syrian regime (<strong>air defence systems<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Designated individuals are subject to an\u00a0<strong>asset freeze<\/strong>\u00a0and EU citizens and companies are\u00a0<strong>forbidden from making funds available<\/strong>\u00a0to them. They are also subject to\u00a0<strong>travel restrictions<\/strong>, which prevents them from entering or transiting through EU territories.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today\u2019s decisions show the EU\u2019s resolve to continue responding swiftly and decisively to Iran\u2019s actions. The European Union condemns the delivery of Iranian drones to Russia and their deadly deployment in the war of aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The relevant legal acts, including the names of the listed individuals and entities, have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/el-consejo-europeo-sanciona-a-otras-8-personas-y-una-entidad-por-violaciones-de-los-derechos-humanos-en-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/craig-melville-El_P1d1PRKQ-unsplash-1-768x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/european-council-sanctions-8-more-individuals-and-1-entity-for-human-rights-violations-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Council sanctions 8 more individuals and 1 entity for human rights violations in Iran<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In December 2022, the Council expressed great concern on the reports related to Iranian drones being manufactured with components of international origin including from Europe. It stated that the EU would continue to respond to all actions supporting Russia\u2019s aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The European Union stands firmly with Ukraine and will continue to provide economic, military, social and financial support to Ukraine for as long as necessary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sanctions on Syria were first introduced in 2011 in response to the violent repression of the civilian population by the Assad regime.
