Ricardo Mourinho F\u00e9lix, Vice-President of the EIB, and Carlos Rey de Vicente, Banco Santander&#8217;s Regional Head for South America, signed a \u20ac300\u00a0million loan in Brussels on 17\u00a0July\u00a02023 during the EU-CELAC Summit of Heads of State and Government and the EU-LAC Business Forum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/waving-brazil-flag-2080028-e1583494841516.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-37534 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/waving-brazil-flag-2080028-e1583494841516.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3425\" height=\"3067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/waving-brazil-flag-2080028-e1583494841516.jpg 3425w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/waving-brazil-flag-2080028-e1583494841516-300x269.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/waving-brazil-flag-2080028-e1583494841516-768x688.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/waving-brazil-flag-2080028-e1583494841516-1024x917.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3425px) 100vw, 3425px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project is part of the European Union&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/strategy-and-policy\/priorities-2019-2024\/stronger-europe-world\/global-gateway_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Gateway investment strategy<\/a>\u00a0supporting infrastructure and improving global and regional connectivity in the digital, climate, transport, health, energy and education sectors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The loan will support the installation of a series of small-scale self-consumption solar photovoltaic plants in Brazil, predominantly on rooftops, for a total combined capacity of around 600\u00a0MWp. The plants will be installed on homes and on the premises of small and medium businesses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This Global Gateway project will contribute to climate action to mitigate the effects of climate change. The project will also help Brazil reach its targets for increasing the share of renewable energy sources in its annual electricity generation, and to achieve its ten-year national energy expansion plan. As a low-carbon power generation project, it will reduce carbon emissions and air pollution. It will also build new generation capacity as part of a self-consumption system that will reduce electrical losses and foster energy efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/infografia-relaciones-ue-celac-hechos-y-cifras\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/ue-celac.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/infografia-relaciones-ue-celac-hechos-y-cifras\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Infograf\u00eda &#8211; Relaciones UE-CELAC: hechos y cifras<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The operation signed today strengthens the EIB&#8217;s role as a global climate bank and will mean that almost 80% of its total financing in Latin America in 2022 is linked to climate action and environmental sustainability. Furthermore, it contributes to Santander&#8217;s climate strategy, which is committed to becoming net zero by 2050.
