The aim is to offer every participating country more opportunities than they would otherwise have, and lead the way in the global supercomputing race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">From the 39 research projects currently managed by the EuroHPC JU, this <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/op.europa.eu\/en\/publication-detail\/-\/publication\/c024c1c7-e4ae-11ed-a05c-01aa75ed71a1\/language-en?_publicationDetails_PublicationDetailsPortlet_source=285046337\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">updated Projects Info Pack<\/a> highlights 12 that reflect the diverse range of topics addressed by the Joint Undertaking. A central objective is to develop innovative, home-grown and sustainable high performance computing (HPC) technologies, such as a low-power microprocessor <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.european-processor-initiative.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EPI SGA2<\/a>, a pilot platform integrating as many European technologies as possible <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/eupex.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EUPEX<\/a>, an accelerator wholly designed and deployed in Europe <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/eupilot.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The European PILOT<\/a> and also a unique incubator for quantum-HPC hybrid computing <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hpcqs.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HPCQS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/el-fondo-del-consejo-europeo-de-innovacion-inyecta-331-m-e-en-empresas-tecnologicas-europeas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/deep-tech-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/european-innovation-council-fund-injects-e331-million-into-european-deep-tech-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Innovation Council Fund injects \u20ac331 million into European deep-tech companies<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another objective of the EuroHPC JU is to develop applications, algorithms and software to be run on the supercomputers by public and private users. These include not only frameworks to improve overall efficiency and performance <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/sparcity.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SPARCITY<\/a>, and improved data handling <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/admire-eurohpc.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ADMIRE<\/a>, but also systems optimised for specific applications such as climate science <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.maelstrom-eurohpc.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MAELSTROM<\/a>, fluid dynamics <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/exafoam.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exaFOAM<\/a> and plasma physics <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/plasma-pepsc.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Plasma-PEPSC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A third objective is to develop the skills to widen the use of HPC across a large number of public and private users, wherever they are located in Europe. <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eurocc-access.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EuroCC<\/a> is creating a network of national HPC Competence Centres to ease access to European HPC opportunities in different sectors, while <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ff4eurohpc.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FF4EuroHPC<\/a> supports SMEs which want to benefit from the use of HPC services to develop innovative products and services. Finally, <a class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/eumaster4hpc.uni.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EUMaster4HPC<\/a> has set up a pioneering pan-European HPC Master of Science programme to educate the next generation of HPC experts across Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article__text ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Currently, the EuroHPC JU has already procured eight supercomputers located across Europe: in Bulgaria, Czechia, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain.
