Cohesion Policy funding in 2021-2027 is expected to support the\u00a0creation of 1.3 million jobs, and\u00a0to\u00a0increase the EU’s GDP by 0.5%\u00a0on average by the end of the decade, and up to 4% in some Member States.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It will also\u00a0<\/strong>help deliver many common public goods, providing tangible and concrete benefits to European citizens, regions and cities. These are some of the conclusions of a\u00a0report<\/a>\u00a0on the outcome of the 2021-2027 Cohesion Policy programming published today.<\/p>\n

To make this happen, Cohesion Policy will unleash a total volume of\u00a0investments of\u00a0<\/strong>\u20ac545 billion\u00a0<\/strong>during this period, of which\u00a0\u20ac378 billion\u00a0<\/strong>are funded\u00a0by the\u00a0<\/strong>EU<\/strong>. These investments will promote lasting socio-economic convergence, territorial cohesion, a social and inclusive Europe and a smooth and fair green and digital transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EU\u2019s trade defence measures protect over 460,000 European jobs<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
A smarter and more competitive Europe<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n

Cohesion Policy strongly supports\u00a0research and innovation<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0addresses the digital divide<\/strong>. For example, 83,000 researchers will have access to improved research facilities while 725,000 companies\u00a0<\/strong>will be supported for innovation and smart growth.<\/p>\n

The Policy aims to support the\u00a0modernisation and digitisation of public services<\/strong>\u00a0(involving 22,500 public administrations) and the digital transformation of businesses. It is also supporting the development of digital skills and infrastructure, including through the connection of 3.1 million households to high-speed mobile networks and fixed digital infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Towards a net-zero carbon economy and more resilient Europe<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n

Green investments in climate mitigation and adaptation are focussing on the objectives of the\u00a0European Green Deal<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0reduce EU greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030\u00a0<\/strong>and reach\u00a0climate neutrality by 2050<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For that, Cohesion Policy supports projects in the areas of\u00a0energy efficiency and renewable energy<\/strong>\u00a0which are particularly important to implement key actions under the\u00a0<\/strong>REPowerEU<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0plan.<\/strong>\u00a0For example, 32 million m2<\/sup>\u00a0of public buildings and 723,000 households are expected to benefit from energy performance improvements while 9,555\u00a0MW of additional renewable energy capacity will be installed.<\/p>\n

To support<\/strong>\u00a0climate change adaptation\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0disaster risk management,\u00a0<\/strong>the Policy will support the building of 229,000 hectares of new green infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Sustainable urban\u00a0<\/strong>mobility will also be supported by including 1,230\u00a0km of new and modernised tram and metro lines, and 12,200\u00a0km of cycling infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Clean water and improved wastewater infrastructure\u00a0<\/strong>will reach 16.4 million people through Cohesion investments.<\/p>\n

Towards a just transition<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n

Cohesion Policy helps people and territories most impacted by the transition to\u00a0<\/strong>climate neutrality to help ensure that\u00a0nobody is left behind.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It will therefore support almost 39,000 enterprises to embrace this transition. In particular, more than 5,000 small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) will benefit from investments in new skills for smart specialisation, industrial transition and entrepreneurship. Up to 120,000 unemployed people will benefit from labour market support measures and almost 200,000 people will gain new qualifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU funds 47 million for green and digital transition of SMEs<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
A more social and inclusive Europe<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n

To ensure social and inclusive growth, and in line with the\u00a0<\/strong>European Pillar of Social Rights<\/a>, Cohesion funds support people, including in their professional lives. This includes the\u00a0<\/strong>development of\u00a0<\/strong>skills and lifelong learning \u2013 crucial priorities in this\u00a0European Year of Skills<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 of\u00a0at least 6.5 million unemployed people<\/strong>. This will help reach the 2030\u00a0EU target<\/a>\u00a0of at least 60% of all adults participating in training every year.<\/p>\n

A particular focus is given to improving the\u00a0integration and inclusion of more than 3\u00a0million people<\/strong>, including 600,000 people in marginalised groups such as Roma. The funds will\u00a0<\/strong>also\u00a0support 1.7 million pupils in primary and secondary education<\/strong>, while almost\u00a03.5 million people<\/strong>\u00a0are expected to study in new or\u00a0modernised education facilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Health and long-term care, including infrastructure and equipment, will benefit from important improvements, while\u00a0<\/strong>60\u00a0million patients are expected to receive medical advice or treatment in new or modernised healthcare facilities.<\/p>\n

A more connected Europe<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n

Cohesion Policy will support efficient transport systems at all territorial levels, such as\u00a0rail<\/strong>, one of the safest and cleanest modes of transport:\u00a03,900\u00a0km of Trans European Transport Network (TEN-T) railway lines<\/strong>\u00a0will be built or modernised.<\/p>\n

Finally, thanks to programmes across the EU and its neighbours under the\u00a0<\/strong>European Territorial Cooperation<\/strong><\/a>, funds will be invested in joint projects involving more than 2\u00a0million persons, 40,299 organisations and 25,456 SMEs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
