Towards a bee-friendly agriculture for a healthy environment<\/strong><strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 100%; text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"position: relative; padding-bottom: 50.00%; padding-top: 0; height: 0;\"><iframe style=\"position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;\" title=\"Apicultura UE ESPA\u00d1OL\" src=\"https:\/\/view.genial.ly\/5d9b07f81f40580f6a1e8c0e\" width=\"1600\" height=\"800\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"yes\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Commission welcomes the initiative and acknowledges the importance of the ECI, in particular as the interlinked crises of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss constitute growing challenges for Europe&#8217;s agriculture and food security. In the EU, one in three bee, butterfly and hoverfly species is in decline, whereas 80% of crop and wild flowering plant species depend on animal pollination. Half of agricultural land in the EU already runs the risk of having a pollination deficit. The threat to the existence of pollinators is a threat to food security and to life on the planet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The success of the Citizens Initiative is a clear sign of the large public support for action in favour of pollinators, biodiversity and sustainable farming. In this context, the Commission is calling on the European Parliament and the Council to find swift and ambitious agreements on the already submitted legislative proposals, that will help protect and restore European pollinators and translate the citizens&#8217; ambition into law.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/commission-boosts-action-on-pollinators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/bee-1726659_1920-768x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"122\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/commission-boosts-action-on-pollinators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commission boosts action on pollinators<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Comprehensive action for sustainability of food systems<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Commission&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/strategy\/priorities-2019-2024\/european-green-deal_en\">European Green Deal<\/a>\u00a0actions to ensure the sustainability of food systems include notably: the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_20_884\">EU Farm to fork and the Biodiversity strategies<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_22_3746\">Nature Restoration Law<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_22_3746\">Sustainable Use of Pesticides Regulation<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_23_281\">revised EU Pollinators&#8217; Initiative<\/a>\u00a0\u2018the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=COM%3A2023%3A35%3AFIN&amp;qid=1674555285177\">New Deal for Pollinators<\/a>&#8216;, as well as the new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/agriculture.ec.europa.eu\/common-agricultural-policy_en\">EU common agricultural policy<\/a>\u00a0for the period 2023-2027. Taken together, the Commission&#8217;s proposals and initiatives are a comprehensive response to the requests made in the ECI.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A52022PC0305&amp;qid=1678816018855\">proposal for a regulation on the sustainable use of pesticides<\/a>\u00a0sets out an ambitious path to reduce the risk and use of chemical pesticides in the EU, including in agriculture. The Commission proposed to reduce the risk and use of chemical pesticides in EU agriculture by 50% by 2030.Within defined parameters to ensure that this overall reduction is met at EU level, Member States will set national reduction targets. New measures will further ensure that all farmers and other professional pesticide users practice Integrated Pest Management, in which alternative environmentally methods of pest prevention and control are considered first, before chemical pesticides may be used as a last resort measure. In the Global Biodiversity Framework, agreed in December 2022 in Montr\u00e9al, the EU and its Member States likewise committed to reduce by half the overall risk posed by pesticides by 2030.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=COM:2022:304:FIN\">proposal for a Nature Restoration Law<\/a>\u00a0will also help to reverse the decline of pollinator populations by 2030 and bring nature back to agricultural land, including through specific targets for the restoration of agricultural ecosystems. The nature restoration law proposal combines an overarching restoration objective for the long-term recovery of nature in the EU&#8217;s land and sea areas with binding restoration targets for specific habitats and species. These measures should cover at least 20% of the EU&#8217;s land and sea areas by 2030, and ultimately all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Together, these proposals have the potential to be a game changer for pollinator conservation at EU level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>More information: <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/es\/IP_23_2084\">European Commission<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Commission is responding to the European Citizens&#8217; Initiative (ECI) \u201cSave bees and farmers!
