For the first time, the treaty will also require\u00a0<strong>assessing the impact of economic activities on high seas biodiversity. Developing countries will be supported in their participation\u00a0<\/strong>in and implementation of the new treaty by a strong capacity-building and marine technology transfer component, funded from a variety of public and private sources and by an equitable mechanism for sharing the potential benefits of marine genetic resources.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-announces-e816-5-million-worth-of-commitments-to-protect-the-ocean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/ocean-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-announces-e816-5-million-worth-of-commitments-to-protect-the-ocean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU announces \u20ac816.5 million worth of commitments to protect the ocean<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"5Normal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This \u2018Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction&#8217; treaty, agreed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/enb.iisd.org\/marine-biodiversity-beyond-national-jurisdiction-bbnj-igc5-resumed\">5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Intergovernmental Conference in New York<\/a>, is the fruit of more than a decade of global engagement to find solutions for this crucial global environmental issue. The\u00a0<strong>EU and its<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Member States have been leading the\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/oceans-and-fisheries.ec.europa.eu\/ocean\/international-ocean-governance\/protecting-ocean-time-action_en#:~:text=Launched%20at%20the%20One%20Ocean%20Summit%20on%2011%20February%202022,at%20the%20highest%20political%20level.\"><strong>BBNJ High Ambition Coalition<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>which played a key role in reaching the agreement. The coalition gathers 52 countries which are committed, at the highest political level, to achieve ambitious actions for the protection of the ocean.
