It promises the Lightyear One, a sleek five-seater electric saloon powered by solar panels that uses very little energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EU-funded LIGHTYEAR project has launched the first commercially available self-recharging solar car. The project is part of the new CORDIS video series &#8220;Make the Connection with EU-Science&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This energy-efficient vehicle reduces dependence on the grid &#8211; and therefore on fossil fuels &#8211; and helps to overcome the main barriers to the acceptance of electric vehicles in the global market, such as range, high costs and high dependence on charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Lightyear&#8217;s goal is to provide clean mobility for everyone, everywhere. Their product strategy is to provide ultra-efficient, long-range solar vehicles,&#8221; said Qurein Biewenga, recipient of the LIGHTYEAR research grant.
