{"id":130094,"date":"2023-02-07T03:00:44","date_gmt":"2023-02-07T02:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/?p=130094"},"modified":"2023-02-06T14:04:19","modified_gmt":"2023-02-06T13:04:19","slug":"european-innovation-council-fund-injects-e331-million-into-european-deep-tech-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/european-innovation-council-fund-injects-e331-million-into-european-deep-tech-companies\/","title":{"rendered":"European Innovation Council Fund injects \u20ac331 million into European deep-tech companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The European Innovation Council Fund (<a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/investment-opportunities_en\">EIC Fund<\/a>) has taken 42 new investment decisions into deep-tech companies for a total of \u20ac331 million\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_22_6953\">since the last announcement<\/a>\u00a0in November 2022.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/investment-opportunities\/eic-fund-equity-investments-beneficiaries_en\">13 companies<\/a>\u00a0have already signed their investment agreements.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/deep-tech-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-130099 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/deep-tech-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"ordenador con c\u00f3digo programaci\u00f3n\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/deep-tech-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/deep-tech-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/deep-tech-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/deep-tech-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/deep-tech-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These are pioneering start-ups that are poised to bring breakthrough innovations to citizens and businesses: a new type of computer vision software and robotics technologies for orthopaedic surgeons; visual search technologies for businesses and industry applications; breast self-reconstruction with patients&#8217; own tissue; innovative photonics; improved food production with reduced emissions; and a first miniaturised universal gas analyser for all renewable gases.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This marks a significant progress, as the EIC Fund is now fully operational. Since the appointment of an external fund manager in September 2022, the EIC Fund has taken a total of 77 investment decisions for deep-tech companies, worth over \u20ac521 million, supporting high-risk start-ups to bring their innovative technologies to market and scale up in strategic areas for Europe.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-and-singapore-step-up-cooperation-as-strategic-partners-and-launch-digital-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/pexels-addie-3152126-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-and-singapore-step-up-cooperation-as-strategic-partners-and-launch-digital-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU and Singapore step up cooperation as strategic partners and launch Digital Partnership<br \/>\n<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EIC Fund, the investment component of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/eic-funding-opportunities\/eic-accelerator-0_en\">EIC Accelerator<\/a>, is an important source of funding for start-ups and small businesses in Europe. The equity investments, ranging from \u20ac500,000 to \u20ac15 million per company (more in justified cases), complement EIC Accelerator grant financing of up to \u20ac2.5 million. So far, under Horizon Europe,\u00a0269 out of 378 selected companies have signed their grant agreements. The EIC is now complying with the target set by the EIC Board to sign the grant agreements with selected companies within 4-5 months.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The external Fund Manager, AlterDomus Management Company S.A., is responsible for taking investment decisions following the rigorous selection process for the EIC Accelerator and due diligence by the European Investment Bank (EIB). Once the EIC Fund has approved the investment, the EIB, in its role of Investment Advisor, guides the work of the lawyers for each specific transaction. It leads to investment agreement, which is signed by the EIC Fund and the company. The Fund Manager follows the EIC Fund&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/document\/download\/f2d3a62e-76c7-45ef-a6a8-39bb67a5774a_en?filename=EIC%20Fund%20Investment%20Guidelines%20-%20Horizon%20Europe.pdf\">Investment Guidelines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/the-european-commission-presents-a-green-deal-industrial-plan-to-enhance-the-competitiveness-of-europes-net-zero-industry\/&quot;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/casco-industria-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/the-european-commission-presents-a-green-deal-industrial-plan-to-enhance-the-competitiveness-of-europes-net-zero-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The European Commission presents a Green Deal Industrial Plan to enhance the competitiveness of Europe\u2019s net-zero industry<br \/>\n<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2023,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/eic-2023-work-programme_en\">the Accelerator offers \u20ac1.13 billion\u00a0of funding<\/a>\u00a0in grants up to \u20ac2.5 million and equity investments from \u20ac500,000 up to \u20ac15 million. \u20ac525 million is earmarked for next generation technologies in strategic areas for Europe, including: energy storage, quantum or semiconductor components, resilient agriculture, biomarkers for cancer, as well as space technologies and services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Start-ups and SMEs can\u00a0apply for EIC Accelerator funding at any time\u00a0through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/accelerator.eismea.eu\/login?ReturnUrl=%2F\">EIC platform<\/a>\u00a0by sending a video pitch, a slide deck and responding to a short set of questions about their innovation and the team.
