This is in view of their role in the widespread and disproportionate use of force against non-violent protestors following the death of Mahsa Amini.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/protests_iran.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-129277 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/protests_iran.jpg\" alt=\"gente manifest\u00e1ndose en Ir\u00e1n\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/protests_iran.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/protests_iran-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/protests_iran-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among the persons enlisted are\u00a0<strong>representatives of the government<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>the Iranian parliament (<em>Majles<\/em>)<\/strong>, important\u00a0<strong>political and media figures<\/strong>, as well as\u00a0<strong>high-ranking members of the Iranian security forces, including of Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This designations also target <strong>governmental bodies<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>private companies\u00a0<\/strong>providing security services and engaging in activities which prohibit, limit, or penalise the exercise of freedom of expression.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d; height: 165px;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"height: 165px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 100%; height: 165px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/parliament-calls-for-more-sanctions-against-iranian-regime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Derechos-Humanos.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/parliament-calls-for-more-sanctions-against-iranian-regime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parliament calls for more sanctions against Iranian regime<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Restrictive measures now apply to a total of\u00a0<strong>164 individuals\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>31 entities<\/strong>. They consist of an\u00a0<strong>asset freeze<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>travel ban\u00a0<\/strong>to the EU, and a<strong>\u00a0prohibition to make funds or economic resources available\u00a0<\/strong>to those listed<strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0A\u00a0<strong>ban on exports\u00a0<\/strong>to Iran of<strong>\u00a0equipment,<\/strong>\u00a0which might be used for\u00a0<strong>internal repression,<\/strong>\u00a0and of equipment for\u00a0<strong>monitoring telecommunications,<\/strong>\u00a0is also in place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The European Union and its member states urge the Iranian authorities to stop the violent crackdown against peaceful protests, cease their resort to arbitrary detentions as a means of silencing critical voices, and release all those illegally detained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EU continues to call on Iran to cease immediately the imposition and execution of death sentences against protesters, reverse the death penalty sentences pronounced, and provide due process to all detainees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More information: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/es\/press\/press-releases\/2023\/01\/23\/iran-eu-adopts-further-restrictive-measures-against-human-rights-violations\/\">European Council<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Council decided to add 18 individuals\u00a0and\u00a019 entities\u00a0to the list of those subject to restrictive measures in the context of the existing\u00a0Iran human rights sanctions regime.
