More than 700,000 people in Spain suffer from Alzheimer\u2019s disease and it is estimated that it could reach two million cases in 2050 and 132 million worldwide, according to the Comprehensive Plan of Alzheimer\u2019s and other Dementia of the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare. This disease, in addition, represents an important economic effort for families. The Spanish Confederation of Alzheimer\u2019s points out that the average cost of caring for a person in this situation is more than EUR 31.000 per year.<\/p>\n

Despite its great impact, there is still no cure and the percentage of failure in clinical trials is almost 100\u00a0%. Current studies focus on patients with early symptoms, so to test the effectiveness of a drug, it is key to reliably detect those people who will develop the ailment in the future.<\/p>\n
