It will provide grants to developing and least developed countries so they can benefit from technical assistance and capacity-building to implement the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These grants will complement and leverage other existing assistance available for sustainable fisheries. The announcement was made by Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis in Davos, at the occasion of his meeting with WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/fisheries-eu-and-neighbouring-countries-agree-first-ever-joint-multiannual-management-plans-in-the-mediterranean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/noaa-vlvc-7nb2U8-unsplash-1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en-que-medida-estan-digitalizadas-las-empresas-de-la-ue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fisheries: EU and neighbouring countries agree first-ever joint multiannual management plans in the Mediterranean\/<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies reached at the WTO&#8217;s 12<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Ministerial Conference on June 2022 delivered meaningful new rules which clamp down on subsidies that lead to over-fishing. It is the WTO&#8217;s first multilateral agreement to support sustainability.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the Agreement to become operational, two-thirds of WTO Members have to notify their acceptance of it to WTO.
