The Memorandum was signed in Tokyo by Commissioner for Energy Kadri\u00a0<strong>Simson\u00a0<\/strong>and Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Yasutoshi Nishimura.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both parties have already committed to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and to accelerate the clean energy transition, as outlined in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/media\/49932\/eu-japan-green-alliance-may-2021.pdf?utm_source=dsms-auto&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=EU-Japan+Green+Alliance\">EU-Japan Green Alliance<\/a>. Hydrogen can make a crucial contribution to both the green transition and energy security. The Memorandum identifies a set of areas in which governments, industrial players, research institutions and local authorities in the EU and Japan will be encouraged to cooperate, such as:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Policies, regulations, incentives and subsidies, including at the international level to work towards common standards and certification;<\/li>\n<li>Best practices and lessons learnt in renewable and low-carbon hydrogen research, development, applications and demonstration projects;<\/li>\n<li>Project development including in the context of multilateral cooperation initiatives, including with a view to supporting other countries around the world;<\/li>\n<li>Education, upskilling, reskilling and vocational education and training, including via exchanges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<section id=\"inline-nav-1\">\n<div class=\"ecl-paragraph\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/deeper-cooperation-between-eu-and-japan-is-a-vital-necessity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/eu-japan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/deeper-cooperation-between-eu-and-japan-is-a-vital-necessity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deeper cooperation between EU and Japan is a vital necessity<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EU and Japan have a well-developed energy dialogue which covers topics such as energy security, offshore wind energy, liquefied natural gas (LNG), electricity market design, energy technologies and nuclear energy. Both sides have set the long-term ambition of being climate-neutral by 2050, and closer cooperation on methane emissions is also under discussion.
