This is particularly due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has significantly disturbed global markets since Russia and Ukraine have been major exporters of grains, wheat, maize, oilseeds (particularly sunflowers) and fertilisers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bollos-de-pan-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-119405 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bollos-de-pan-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"bollos de pan\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bollos-de-pan-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bollos-de-pan-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bollos-de-pan-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bollos-de-pan-1536x1022.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bollos-de-pan-2048x1363.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In August 2022, the price of bread in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:European_Union_(EU)\">EU<\/a> was on average 18% higher than in August 2021. This is a huge increase compared with August 2021, when the price of bread was on average 3% higher than in August 2020. Monthly data also show a significant increase in headline inflation, although not as large (from +3% to +10%).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/grafica-evolucion-pan-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-119401 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/grafica-evolucion-pan-1-1024x512.png\" alt=\"grafica evoluci\u00f3n pan\" width=\"533\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/grafica-evolucion-pan-1-1024x512.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/grafica-evolucion-pan-1-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/grafica-evolucion-pan-1-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/grafica-evolucion-pan-1-1536x768.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/grafica-evolucion-pan-1-2048x1024.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This information comes from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/data\/database?node_code=prc_hicp\">data on the harmonised index of consumer prices<\/a>\u00a0(HICP) published recently by Eurostat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some countries were much more affected than others.
