That is one of your\u00a0<strong>fundamental rights\u00a0<\/strong>as EU citizen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What can this mean in practice?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Lost or stolen passport or ID card?<\/strong>\u00a0The other EU country can issue emergency travel documents &#8211; single-journey documents, in general enabling you to return to Europe.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Serious accident or illness?<\/strong>\u00a0The other EU country may help contact your insurance company, family or friends for you.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Victim of a crime?<\/strong>\u00a0The other EU country may assist you and advise on the next steps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>You can take some simple steps to facilitate this<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Follow the\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/consularprotection\/travel-advice_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-extlink=\"\">travel advice<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>instructions<\/strong>\u00a0from your country&#8217;s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For example, register your presence abroad if applicable<em>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Check if your country has an embassy or a consulate<\/strong>\u00a0where you are travelling.<\/li>\n<li>No embassy or consulate?\u00a0<strong>Find one of another EU country<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/consularprotection\/representation-offices_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-extlink=\"\">our dedicated platform<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeas.europa.eu\/eeas\/eu-world-0_en\">via the EU Delegations<\/a>.
