The High Representative underlined that EU sanctions work and the Russian economy is severely affected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EU will continue to support Ukraine in implementing its reform agenda within the\u00a0<strong>European perspective<\/strong>, after it was recently granted the status of candidate country by the European Council. The next\u00a0<strong>EU-Ukraine Association Council<\/strong>\u00a0meeting should take place on 5 September 2022.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/the-state-of-the-regions-cities-and-villages-in-the-areas-of-socio-economic-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/The-state-of-the-regions-cities-and-villages-in-the-areas-of-socio-economic-policies-254x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/the-state-of-the-regions-cities-and-villages-in-the-areas-of-socio-economic-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The state of the regions, cities and villages in the areas of socio-economic policies<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>EU-Latin America and the Caribbean relations<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Council held a discussion on EU relations with Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">LAC countries have been badly affected by the\u00a0<strong>negative consequences of the Russian war<\/strong>\u00a0of aggression against Ukraine, in particular rising prices and shortages of food, fertilisers and energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Latin America and the Caribbean nonetheless remains a very important EU partner in a number of areas. For this reason, the Council agreed to step up this \u2018other transatlantic relationship\u2019 and bring about a\u00a0<strong>qualitative leap in the relations between the EU and LAC countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ministers emphasised the importance and urgency of completing and finalising the network of\u00a0<strong>trade and association agreements<\/strong>, prioritising those with\u00a0<strong>Mexico and Chile<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Council agreed to hold an\u00a0<strong>EU-CELAC foreign ministers\u2019 meeting<\/strong>\u00a0in Buenos Aires\u00a0<strong>in October 2022<\/strong>, during the Argentinian pro tempore presidency of CELAC.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Digital diplomacy<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Council exchanged views on digital diplomacy and\u00a0<strong>approved conclusions<\/strong>\u00a0on the matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The High Representative underlined that the EU is equipping itself with another\u00a0<strong>foreign policy tool to support its geopolitical role<\/strong>\u00a0and ambitions in the global technological power game.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The conclusions approved today spell out the EU\u2019s intentions in the field: actively promoting the\u00a0<strong>EU\u2019s regulatory model<\/strong>\u00a0by building coalitions on digital issues, developing\u00a0<strong>training programmes<\/strong>\u00a0to produce \u2018digital diplomats\u2019, and\u00a0<strong>enhancing coordination<\/strong>\u00a0with the UN and other multilateral bodies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this context and as a first concrete step, the EU will open a\u00a0<strong>dedicated EU office in San Francisco<\/strong>\u00a0to enhance the EU\u2019s digital diplomacy in and with the US.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Current affairs<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">EU ministers exchanged views on the resumption of\u00a0<strong>Association Council meetings with Israel<\/strong>, which have not taken place since 2012. They agreed to reconvene the meetings and start work to determine the EU position. The EU position on the Middle East Process has not changed since the 2016 Council conclusions supporting the two-state solution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Council also discussed developments in\u00a0<strong>Tunisia<\/strong>, in the run-up to the constitutional referendum on 25 July. Ministers stressed the importance for Tunisia of moving towards institutional normalcy and preserving the democratic set-up.
