India and the EU reiterated their commitment to protecting and promoting all human rights. In this context, as open and democratic societies, they emphasised the universality, indivisibility, interdependence and interrelatedness of all human rights.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/india-eu.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-103538 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/india-eu.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/india-eu.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/india-eu-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/india-eu-768x401.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Dialogue allowed for discussions on a wide range of human rights issues. Participants outlined their respective approaches, efforts and achievements within India and the EU since the last Dialogue in April 2021.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">India and the EU exchanged views and concerns on civil and political rights, the rights of persons belonging to minorities and vulnerable groups, freedom of religion or belief, freedom of expression and opinion online and offline, women empowerment, children&#8217;s rights, LGBTQI+ rights, the rights of migrants, the use of technology in the area of democracy and human rights, issues of security and human rights, business and human rights, co-operation in public health, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/second-annual-conference-on-the-global-state-of-human-rights-15-and-16-july\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/human-rights-768x509.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/second-annual-conference-on-the-global-state-of-human-rights-15-and-16-july\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Second Annual Conference on the Global State of Human Rights -15 and 16 July<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They both concurred on the importance of safeguarding the freedom, independence\u00a0and diversity\u00a0of civil society actors, including human rights defenders\u00a0and journalists,\u00a0and respecting freedom of association and peaceful assembly. The EU reiterated its opposition to capital punishment in all cases and without exception.\u00a0India reiterated its stand on recognition of the Right to Development as a distinct, universal, inalienable and fundamental human right that is applicable to all people in all countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">India and the EU\u00a0expressed the need to foster greater engagement on human rights issues, based on internationally recognised human rights laws and standards.\u00a0Both sides\u00a0recognised the importance of strengthening national and international human rights mechanisms for the protection and promotion of human rights and the important role of national human rights institutions, civil society actors and journalists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EU and India updated each other on their implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The EU informed the Indian side of its recent initiatives on corporate sustainability due diligence. India updated the EU on the status of its first National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. The EU and India will deepen cooperation in the field of business and human rights.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/magistrate-miriam-german-brito-winner-of-the-european-human-rights-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Magistrada-Miriam-German-Brito-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/magistrate-miriam-german-brito-winner-of-the-european-human-rights-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Magistrate Miriam Germ\u00e1n Brito, winner of the European Human Rights Award<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They both reiterated their commitment to multilateralism, including to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism,\u00a0and the importance of enhancing cooperation in international fora in the field of human rights, particularly at the UN General Assembly and the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The Permanent Missions of the European Union and India to the UN based in Geneva will continue their exchanges and organise further joint activities following the side-event on gender equality, water and sanitation in the margins of the 50<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0UNHRC session.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">India and the EU reiterated their commitment to the shared principles and values of democracy, freedom, rule of law and respect for human rights.
