They\u00a0identified avenues to\u00a0cooperate closer\u00a0on economic security, notably on the resilience of supply chains. They committed\u00a0to\u00a0further\u00a0strengthen coordination in implementing\u00a0their\u00a0post-COVID-19 economic recovery strategies with a view to ensuring that they are \u201cgreen\u201d, \u201cdigital\u201d, socially inclusive and based on free and fair trade.<\/span><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/el-modelo-de-la-union-europea-2022-en-corea-del-sur-concluye-con-la-seleccion-de-los-mejores-estudiantes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/group-meu-1-1-768x507.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/model-european-union-2022-in-south-korea-concludes-with-selection-of-top-performing-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Model European Union 2022 in South Korea concludes with selection of top performing students<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-IE\" xml:lang=\"EN-IE\">In this context, the EU and the RoK pledged to join forces in strengthening the implementation of the Paris Agreement, including in the run-up to COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, and to foster the adoption of a highly ambitious post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework in the run-up to COP15 in Montreal, supported by a transition to a circular economy and clean energy. This builds on discussions at a successful fourth meeting on 27 January 2022 of the bilateral Working Group on Environment, Energy and Climate Change. The EU and the RoK also explored the perspective of establishing an EU-Republic of Korea Green Partnership.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-IE\" xml:lang=\"EN-IE\">They\u00a0also welcomed opportunities\u00a0from the adoption of a comprehensive bilateral cooperation agenda in\u00a0the digital\u00a0realm\u00a0under the\u00a0future EU-RoK Digital Partnership. In the area of research and\u00a0innovation, the EU particularly welcomed RoK\u2019s decision\u00a0to start discussions\u00a0to become an associated member of the\u00a0framework programme Horizon Europe 2021-2027.\u00a0Both partners also agreed to hold the first session of the new EU-RoK Transport Dialogue in the second half of 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-IE\" xml:lang=\"EN-IE\">On trade and investment,\u00a0they both agreed that the EU-RoK\u00a0trade agreement\u00a0works well\u00a0and provides\u00a0substantial and balanced benefits\u00a0for both\u00a0sides.\u00a0However, in some areas, challenges remain. In particular, the EU\u00a0called upon the\u00a0Republic of Korea\u00a0to remove persistent obstacles to imports of EU animal products,\u00a0and for ratification of the pending ILO convention 105 on forced labour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-IE\" xml:lang=\"EN-IE\">On global challenges, they both confirmed their\u00a0strong\u00a0commitment to multilateralism,\u00a0as well as their wish to enhance cooperation in international fora including the UN, the WTO and the G20.\u00a0The EU and the RoK also\u00a0explored commonalities between their respective Indo-Pacific strategic approaches\u00a0and agreed to cooperate in their implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-IE\" xml:lang=\"EN-IE\">The delegation of the European Union was led by Mr Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director of the Asia and Pacific Department of the European External Action Service.\u00a0The\u00a0Delegation of the Republic of Korea\u00a0was led by Mr\u00a0Yun\u00a0Seong-deok, Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-IE\" xml:lang=\"EN-IE\">The\u00a0next\u00a0EU-RoK Joint Committee will meet in 2023\u00a0in\u00a0Brussels.<\/span><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/security-and-defence-in-the-indo-pacific-what-is-at-stake-for-the-eu-and-its-strategy-in-depth-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/inm-212x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"197\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/security-and-defence-in-the-indo-pacific-what-is-at-stake-for-the-eu-and-its-strategy-in-depth-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Security and defence in the Indo-Pacific.
