The revision aims to improve the overall environmental outcome of waste management in line with the waste hierarchy and the implementation of the polluter pays principle. The Commission invites citizens and other interested parties to express\u00a0views on the following elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Waste reduction and prevention<\/li>\n<li>Food waste reduction<\/li>\n<li>Separate collection systems<\/li>\n<li>Regulatory and economic incentives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The consultation will run until 16 August 2022 and is available\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eusurvey\/runner\/PublicConsultation_WFD2023revision\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/right-to-repair-meps-want-more-durable-and-more-easily-repairable-products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/derecho-a-reparar-768x513.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/right-to-repair-meps-want-more-durable-and-more-easily-repairable-products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Right to repair: MEPs want more durable and more easily repairable products<br \/>\n<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Background<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The EU waste policy provides a framework to improve waste prevention and management, stimulate innovation in separate collection and recycling of waste, limit the use of landfilling, and create incentives to change consumer behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A02008L0098-20180705\">Waste Framework Directive<\/a> also lays down fundamental waste prevention and management principles based on the five-step \u201cwaste hierarchy\u201d. It establishes an order of preference for managing and disposing of waste.
