At the 28th EU-Japan summit in Tokyo, leaders discussed bilateral relations and how to coordinate their responses to Russia’s war against Ukraine and to important global and regional challenges. They also launched the digital partnership.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, representing the EU, met Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the 28th EU-Japan summit in Tokyo, Japan.<\/p>\n

The leaders of the EU and Japan reaffirmed their\u00a0close and comprehensive partnership<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The EU and Japan discussed important global and regional challenges as well as bilateral relations. They also adopted a joint statement and\u00a0launched the Digital Partnership<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Russia’s war against Ukraine<\/h3>\n

The leaders of the EU and Japan strongly\u00a0condemned Russia’s aggression<\/strong>\u00a0and demanded that Russia\u00a0immediately cease its military aggression on the territory of Ukraine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The EU and Japan will continue\u00a0to provide coordinated political, financial, material and humanitarian suppor<\/strong>t to Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The EU and Japan also discussed how to\u00a0cooperate<\/strong>\u00a0in order<\/strong>\u00a0to keep global energy markets stable<\/strong>\u00a0and help ensure each other‘<\/strong>s security of supply, in particular for the supply of LNG. They will cooperate to reduce Europe’s dependency on energy supplies from Russia and to ensure diversification of energy supply sources.<\/p>\n

Security and defence<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The EU and Japan will further enhance their close consultations on security and defence, including on non-proliferation and disarmament and on countering hybrid threats. They will also\u00a0expand practical cooperation<\/strong> in areas such as cybersecurity, countering disinformation, maritime security and crisis management.<\/p>\n

Digital Partnership<\/strong><\/h3>\n

EU and Japan leaders launched the EU-Japan Digital Partnership to advance cooperation on a wide range of digital issues and to help\u00a0ensure a successful digital transformation<\/strong> that delivers solidarity, prosperity and sustainability.<\/p>\n
