We are home to some of the most talented scholars and researchers from around the world who are tackling global issues and making a difference to people&#8217;s lives.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1832, Durham\u2019s Department of Theology and Religion was recently ranked fifth in the world in the QS World University Subject rankings, and first in the UK for research quality in the Complete University Guide. We also came top in the country in the last two UK assessments of research (2008 and 2014). We are home to more than thirty academic staff, and a community of over one hundred doctoral students.\u00a0The Department has a long-standing tradition of outstanding research and education and is widely recognised as one of the leading departments in its field.<\/p>\n<p>Teaching and research within the Department is focused on three key areas: Biblical studies, Christian theology and ethics, and the social scientific study of religion, with many staff working across these subfields. Maintaining a vibrant research culture, the Department convenes a range of research seminars and regularly attracts leading international scholars to its events. The department is also home to a number of research centres: the Michael Ramsey Centre for Anglican Studies, the Centre for Death and Life Studies, and the Centre for Catholic Studies.<\/p>\n<h3>Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>To work with the Professor of Theology and Ministry and other colleagues, as appropriate, to identify areas for research, develop new research methods and extend the Common Awards research portfolio.<\/li>\n<li>To plan and manage individual and collaborative research projects under the direction of the Professor of Theology and Ministry.<\/li>\n<li>To understand and convey material of a specialist or highly technical nature to academic and non-academic audiences through the presentation of research papers at conferences and other events<\/li>\n<li>Prepare high-quality outputs for publication, including papers for submission to peer reviewed journals; in particular developing original contributions to the conversations surrounding theological education at a national level under the direction of the Professor Theology and Ministry.<\/li>\n<li>To deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines by discussing with the Professor of Theology and Ministry\u00a0and offering creative or innovative solutions.<\/li>\n<li>To liaise with research colleagues and make internal and external contacts to develop knowledge and understanding to form relationships for future research collaboration,\u00a0and in particular to work with other members of the Common Awards team in liaising with partner TEIs and with staff from national church bodies such as the Church of England\u2019s National Ministry Team.<\/li>\n<li>To assist with the planning\u00a0and delivery of the existing programme of Common Awards\u00a0research, events, especially\u00a0research resources in collaboration with others\u00a0symposia\u00a0and the annual staff conference.<\/li>\n<li>To work with other members of the Common Awards team to develop and deliver activities that will enhance the experience of students from around the partnership.<\/li>\n<li>To work with other members of the Common Awards team to help maintain oversight of the delivery of Common Awards programmes at the partner TEIs, and to develop related academic policies and quality assurance processes.<\/li>\n<li>To contribute to fostering a collegial and respectful working environment which is inclusive and welcoming and where everyone is treated fairly with dignity and respect.<\/li>\n<li>To engage in wider citizenship to support the department and wider discipline.<\/li>\n<li>To engage in continuing professional development by\u00a0membership of departmental committees, etc. and by attending relevant training and development courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Qualifications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A good first degree in\u00a0Theology\/Religious Studies, or a related discipline.<\/li>\n<li>A PhD (or be close to submission) in\u00a0a relevant\u00a0subject.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Organisation<\/h3>\n<p>DURHAM UNIVERSITY<\/p>\n<h3>Location<\/h3>\n<p>United Kingdom \u203a Durham, United Kingdom<\/p>\n<h3>Research field<\/h3>\n<div>\n<div><span class=\"lineage-item lineage-item-level-0\">History<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"lineage-item lineage-item-level-0\">Philosophy<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"lineage-item lineage-item-level-0\">Religious sciences<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Deadline<\/h3>\n<p>13th May 2022<\/p>\n<h4>More information<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/euraxess.ec.europa.eu\/jobs\/779552\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Euraxess<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Offer Description Durham University is one of the world&#8217;s top universities with strengths across the Arts and Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences.
