(Photo by JANEK SKARZYNSKI \/ AFP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This extraordinary Council was an opportunity for the ministers to recall their solidarity with Ukraine and with the member states affected by the suspension of gas deliveries by Gazprom, which was implemented despite the current contracts.<\/p>\n<p>Energy ministers presented their analysis of their situation with regard to the latest developments.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-rejects-putins-request-to-pay-for-gas-supplies-from-russia-in-rubles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/gas-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-rejects-putins-request-to-pay-for-gas-supplies-from-russia-in-rubles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU rejects Putin\u2019s request to pay for gas supplies from Russia in rubles<br \/>\n<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>They discussed the EU&#8217;s level of preparedness in the event of a supply crisis and the solidarity measures and instruments at EU level that they would like to promote in this context.<\/p>\n<p>With regard to a possible disruption of supply, ministers exchanged their analyses on their state of preparedness for such an event, solidarity measures, and possible emergency measures to strengthen and better coordinate the exchange of information, particularly with regard to national consumption levels.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-will-import-58-of-its-energy-by-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Gross-available-energy-Russia.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eu-will-import-58-of-its-energy-by-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU energy mix and import dependency<br \/>\n<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Ministers took stock of possible additional actions in terms of security of supply, gas transit and management of gas stocks, in particular with a view to the weeks and months to come. In particular, they welcomed the rapid progress of the negotiations on the &#8220;gas storage&#8221; regulation and hope to conclude them shortly.<\/p>\n<p>Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to work towards the gradual elimination of the EU&#8217;s dependence on Russian fossil fuels. In this context, they await with great interest the REPowerEU plan, which will be presented by the Commission in May.<\/p>\n<p>Ministers and the Commission agreed to continue their coordinated contacts with international partners and reliable suppliers and to rapidly establish the European Gas Purchasing Platform, in order to guarantee the EU&#8217;s energy supply at affordable prices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/meetings\/tte\/2022\/05\/02\/\">EU Council &#8211; Press release<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>On 28 April, the EU-US Task Force on Energy Security met in person in Washington to discuss implementation of the 25 March Joint Statement by Presidents Biden and\u00a0<strong>von der Leyen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/EEUU-UE.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-13310\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/EEUU-UE.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/EEUU-UE.png 766w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/EEUU-UE-300x204.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<section id=\"inline-nav-1\">\n<div class=\"ecl-paragraph\">\n<p>The meeting, chaired by Amos Hochstein, US Senior Advisor for Energy Security, and Bj\u00f6rn Seibert, Head of Cabinet of the European Commission President, reviewed progress on diversifying natural gas supplies to Europe and reducing Europe&#8217;s demand for natural gas. The discussion followed two recent Task Force convenings that included senior US and European Commission officials, representatives of EU Member States, and industry participants.<\/p>\n<p>The sides also discussed the EU Energy Purchase Platform and plans to establish a framework to accelerate diversification of gas supply, including additional LNG supplies.
