Globally, urban areas consume over 65% of the world&#8217;s energy, accounting for more than 70% of CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0emissions. It is therefore important that cities act as experimentation and innovation ecosystems to help all others in their transition to become climate-neutral by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>Ursula\u00a0<strong>von der Leyen<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>President of the Commission, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe green transition is making its way all over Europe right now. But there&#8217;s always a need for trailblazers, who set themselves even higher goals. These cities are showing us the way to a healthier future. We will support them on this! Let&#8217;s begin the work today.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Cities Mission will receive \u20ac360 million of Horizon Europe funding covering the period 2022-23, to start the innovation paths towards climate neutrality by 2030. The research and innovation actions will address clean mobility, energy efficiency and green urban planning, and offer the possibility to build joint initiatives and ramp up collaborations in synergies with other EU programmes.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.9988%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: double; border-color: #001f7d;\" cellpadding=\"0,5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/eu-missions-100-climate-neutral-and-smart-cities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/EU-missions-100-climate-neutral-and-smart-cities-211x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"114\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/eu-missions-100-climate-neutral-and-smart-cities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU missions 100 climate-neutral and smart cities<br \/>\n<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Benefits for cities include tailor-made advice and assistance from a dedicated Mission Platform run by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/netzerocities.eu\/\">NetZeroCities<\/a>, additional funding and financing opportunities and the possibility to join large innovation actions and pilot projects.
